Networks are more than just many computer systems connected together for the sharing of information and resources -they are the lifeblood of business.

How could we do business today without the World Wide Web? The Internet is the largest network we have -millions of computers sharing vast amounts of resources, billions of dollars of financial transactions taking place, businesses which would not have been able to trade if the internet did not exist.

The smallest network would be two computers connected together in a 'Workgroup', maybe this is how you work in your office. A larger office network would consist of a server and several clients connected to it. The server would be a central place to hold user documents, files and resources; such as printers. This central repository makes administration, security and access much easier. The largest corporate networks have many 'Domains' linked together over several 'Sites', each with many servers and maybe thousands of clients all administered from a single 'Primary Domain Controller' server.
